Kieran Healy
Kieran Healy, Ph.D., is Professor of Sociology at Duke University. His substantive research has focused on exchange in human blood and organs, the moral order of market society, the effect of models and measurement on social classification, and the link between those two topics, especially in the consumer credit market. He is also interested in techniques and methods for data visualization.
Healy received his Ph.D. from Princeton University, where he won the American Sociological Association’s Dissertation Award. He taught at the University of Arizona before moving to Duke in 2009. At Duke he teaches courses in data visualization and data management.
A highly-rated teacher and an effective presenter, Healy has written extensively on data visualization and data management for public audiences, and has had his visual work featured by The Washington Post, Vox, The Rachel Maddow Show, Slate, Bloomberg News, the Boston Globe and other outlets.
His prize-winning book Last Best Gifts was published by the University of Chicago Press, and his work has appeared in the American Journal of Sociology, the American Sociological Review as well as in other leading journals in sociology, law, and philosophy.
