Monica Alexander
Monica Alexander, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor in Statistical Sciences and Sociology at the University of Toronto.
Alexander’s research focuses on developing statistical methods to help measure disparities in demographic and health outcomes. She received a Ph.D. in Demography and Masters in Statistics from the University of California, Berkeley.
Alexander has worked on research projects with organizations such as UNICEF, UNHCR, and the WHO. Her work has appeared in journals such as Demography, Epidemiology, The Lancet Global Health, and JAMA. She has worked extensively on using social media data to improve migration estimates and forecasts. She has also taught applied statistics and demographic methods to students in both statistics and sociology, and has given a number of workshops on using social media data in population research.
